I was appalled when I heard how much people paid for those JayZ and Beyonce On the Run Tour tickets. I have nothing against either one of those artists. Well, nothing that I care to get into today. I do find it awfully strange that people would even be willing to pay that price to see them perform. If you’re a die hard fan, more power to you. It just couldn’t be me.
Then I got to thinking about all the people I know who are extremely talented. In any avenue. They don’t get a morsel of the shine that celebs like Jay and Bey get, yet they possess the same mmagnitude of talent. We always complain about the value of music played on the radio these days. Ya know, how it sucks.
So, I decided to take it upon myself to support my local artists. There are so many voices (of all kinds) who need to be heard, and who have valuable things to say. I want to find them. Every time I listen to a local artist I feel so connected. There are so many hidden gems right where you are who aren’t requiring that you give them all your rent money to have the pleasure of their company.
I think some of the best quality comes from those who don’t have to worry about the pressure of being popular, but who do it simply because they love it and they want to connect with those around them.
So I’m challenging myself and you to support your local artists!
And a special shoutout to my girl Krystal for her recent performance in Layaway Part 3: Bag Ladies. You were phenomenal. The show was epic. The discussion afterward was spicy and controversial, and I truly enjoyed myself. I’m so proud of you and inspired by you for getting yourself out there and taking those terrifying neccessary steps to follow your dreams. Please believe, I am impatiently awaiting your next project 🙂
