The holiday season is here, and in full effect! With Christmas gifts to buy, parties to attend, and astronomical electric bills from all the lights, we’re left with very few coins by the end of December. But just because we are in the holiday season, doesn’t mean that our wardrobes must suffer. Here are a few simple solutions to be sure that you stay fashionable on a budget.
My mama told me… You better shop around
Have you ever seen an ensemble put together perfectly in the display of a store that you can’t afford? Price tags shouldn’t stop you from attaining that desired ensemble, or a specific piece. You simply have to shop around. You can take a picture of the item/items, and compare prices from shop to shop. Don’t forget to take advantage of the internet. Make a Google search (as specific as possible), with what it is that you’re for, and you can price match all without even leaving your room.

Something borrowed
In a time where boyfriend jeans, and sweaters are taking over, we can’t help but borrow pieces and restore them into our own. Start by borrowing a t-shirt, jacket, or jeans from a boyfriend, brother, or even out of your mother‘s vintage closet. Then find creative ways to make the outfit your own. The options are endless here.
Go green
Don’t be afraid to recycle an article of clothing. By wearing a piece in a number of different ways, you can create the feel of an entirely new ensemble. Take a plaid shirt for instance. You can wear it straight buttoned down, on top of an undershirt, around the waist, with pants, or with a skirt. You can save money by continuing to mix and match with articles that you already have.
What’s a ship without a SALE?
There’s no greater feeling than walking out of a store, knowing that you got a great deal. While shopping around the holiday season can be hectic, you can always use it to your advantage. Stores are able to lure shoppers in with great deals during this time, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get a piece of the pie.
Rome wasn’t built in a day
You aren’t going to build your desired wardrobe overnight. Make a shopping plan for yourself. Maybe you can afford to buy a new piece once a week, maybe one every two weeks. But if you actually plan out what you can and can not afford, according to your budget, you can better stay within your financial means; while accumulating your desired wardrobe size overtime.
That’s all folks. And while you’re here, check out Regina’s last post on Fall trends.
Today’s guest post comes from Regina Thomas aka Regina the Style Bambina. Lover of Ole Miss, her family (especially her nieces and nephew), Chipotle steak bowls, travel, and home decor. When she’s not devoting her time to these things, you can find her coaching volleyball, scouring the interwebs for fashion inspiration, or in the library studying her coursework for her MS in Speech Pathology. Yep. She does it all.
Amazing blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own wwebsite soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed ..
Anyy recommendations? Thanks a lot!
Hi love! Glad you enjoyed it! I would definitely recommend a free platform like wordpress. You get lots of options and it’s the most simplistic on the admin side. There’s no need to shell out cash when you can start for free. Getting started is the hardest part. Then later if you decide you want to upgrade you always have that option and its still pretty cheap. I’m so glad you’re starting your site!
