Our Wedding Looks + Details

I couldn’t think of a catchy intro so I’m jumping right into it. Today I’m talking wedding details! I’m spilling the tea on our looks, the florist, cakes, and our amazing photographer. I like to keep it real with y’all, so I have to be honest and say that I’m only mentioning the vendors who gave me something I ended up loving. *coughs*  I’m going to go ahead and drop the vendors below because there will be a lot of words following. You’re welcome J

My hair and makeup- Me

Our wedding cake was a simplistic design and we used Ashleigh’s Amaretto and Champagne flavors. Her cakes are savory and fresh and I’d definitely recommend her. Our florist provided the flowers for the cake as well and she freaking nailed it. The groom’s cake was a chunky strawberry cake. Jarell’s (and now my) cousin Avonda made it. She’s the best. I’m not kidding.

Lizzie Bee’s came through on the floral designs, guys. I was obsessed with the bouquets. I told her I wanted green but not a ton of leaves and, again, NAILED it. I was so impressed by the textures and colors she incorporated into the bouquets. I kept mine! During the reception we put the bouquets in the vases she delivered them in and used them to decorate the bridal party tables. She did a lily boutonniere for Jarell and the rest of the guys had ivory rosey deliciousness for theirs. Seriously, still swooning over these.

We decided to keep it light for the summer and went with khaki tuxes for the guys and they looked amazing. Jarell wore a coral/peach tie & pocket square combo while the groomsmen wore the Malibu blue combo to match the girl’s dresses. I wish you could have seen how sharp these guys looked. Soooo crisp! So playa!

The bridesmaids wore one shoulder Malibu blue floor length gowns with a nice (but modest) split. It looked amazing on every shade, and shape. Every. Single. One.

My hostesses wore blush pink floor length gowns with a gorgeous embellished mesh neckline. They looked like angels. I honestly can’t even.

I had a bit of a debacle with my entire ensemble lol. I ordered my dress in the size the sales associate told me I needed, but was then told by the seamstress (at the last minute) that I needed a larger one and that it might not even be DELIVERED until a couple of days before the wedding. It’s a long story. It was dramatic. But it was done on time. My shoes were ordered online and sent to the wrong person. Then when I FINALLY got them, they had been worn already! I was disturbed. I ended up with a brand new pair without someone else’s gross toe prints and scuffs on them and all was well. I was pretty disappointed with my experience at David’s Bridal, but I ended up loving my stuff and the girls had no issues at all.

I debated between this dress and one that was made by the same designer. I went with this one because of the faux halter neckline, because I didn’t want to be tugging and tugging all day and night. The mesh back and buttons made it look so classy, and the lace detailing was everything. I kept the accessories pretty minimalistic because the dress didn’t need much help. I wore a bracelet from Sam Moon, earrings from Charming Charlie, and the tennis bracelet that Jarell surprised me with when I went in for my dress fitting. I did an Ivory gel manicure on my nails. I had never done white nail polish before, but it looked really elegant.

My hair was a roller set that I pinned up. I wanted to do a natural look because I did not want to run the risk of straightening my hair and then it turning into an afro midday. I got married in the summertime in Texas. Sweat was unavoidable, so I decided to go with it. Fun fact: I sat under the hair dryer for what felt like a decade and my hair was still not completely dry, so I had to combat with some frizz. I chose not to let it ruin my day lol.

I wanted my makeup to look soft and natural, so I went with a pretty neutral look and focused on just keeping it fresh.
